Do You Know Why Some Dishes Appeal To You And Others Don’t?

Do you know why some dishes appeal to you and others don't?

We eat to stay alive and healthy, but also for pleasure. It has surely happened to you that, even if you have a full stomach, there are dishes that awaken a huge desire to eat. Some, for example, are totally addicted to chocolate. Others are dying for fruits or fast food.

On the contrary, there are other dishes that suppress our appetite. These dishes are just as individual as those that deprive us. Even among them are those that nutritionists point out as the best candidates to incorporate into our diet. Fortunately, our essential nutrients are present in a wide variety of foods and we can easily substitute one for another without altering our nutrition too much.

What makes some dishes seem absolutely delicious and others disgust us? The truth is that food plays a different role in humans than it does for other animals. We do not eat only to nourish ourselves, but emotions also play an important role when deciding what we are going to consume.

Food, eating disorders, and food selectivity have been the subject of much research. It has been concluded that there are systematic factors, beyond chance, that make a certain dish attractive or repulsive.  In addition, the results of these studies add that these factors have a lot to do with our emotional state.

Lovers of spicy dishes

They are excessively dynamic people. Lovers of spicy dishes have a certain degree of anxiety and that is why they are constantly looking for action and excitement in their lives. It does not matter that the spice causes acidity or that they end up with tears in their eyes after trying a dish. They just feel that “without spicy, it doesn’t taste like anything.”

People with a taste for spice may need to take more organized action to dissipate their energy through movement. Practicing a sport of certain risk or venturing into nature walks can be good options.

The candy hunters

Cakes, chocolates, and all forms of candy are the favorite whim of people who are overworked or who must perform strenuous routines without much compensation in return. For them, food is a form of relief for anxiety that they carry continuously, it is their way of passing those energy that perspire to the digestive system.

The candy is a means to find the joy that is missing in their lives. It is known to increase serotonin levels and this makes it palatable to those who are somewhat sad. Better if they are looking for some activity that relaxes them and that they enjoy, such as taking a walk in the park or reading a good book. The sweets can be exchanged for hugs and the result is even better.

Coffee lovers

Excessive taste for coffee and caffeine-containing products may be talking about someone who is mentally fatigued. They are almost always people who are on the hunt for information and intellectual stimuli. The downside is that too much coffee produces the opposite effect: more fatigue, more and a feeling of dispersion.

If you are one of these caffeine addicts, instead of spending five minutes drinking the next coffee, why not take a short walk in an open place, wash your face with water or stretch your muscles? Air and movement, like caffeine, are natural activators. Perhaps less comfortable, but healthier.

Those who want everything to be crunchy

They always say that if it does not creak it is because it is stale or has sucked up too much oil. If, on the other hand, something does “crunch” when they eat it, they assure that it is delicious. They love fried foods, pork rinds, ultra-baked cookies, and the like, no matter how many calories they have.

In general, people who want everything to be crunchy experience anger on a daily basis and have fear or difficulty expressing it. The most common is that they feel little recognized for their achievements. If you feel identified as one of these people, a good idea is to keep a diary and try to record there all those disagreements that have not yet been openly expressed.

Soft, starchy foods …

Dishes such as rice, bread, pasta and the like belong to this group. People who love soft foods take great pleasure in experiencing the sensation of biting into something soft, fluffy, without resistance.

More than that feeling, people who prefer soft foods seek hugs, affection, caresses. In a word: they seek consolation because they feel that they have had to go through great difficulties in life in the midst of great loneliness.

If this is your case, before you bite here and there, it would be good to seek the company of a good friend or join a support group. You need the warmth of others, rather than a bunch of starches that will only add more and more pounds to you.
